Title: Springboard Social Justice Fellow

Phone: (212) 854-9726

Sam is a Boston native and UMass Amherst graduate who is thrilled to be joining the Columbia/ Barnard Hillel community! Sam graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Conservation and a certificate in Public Policy and Administration. They are from an interfaith family and had limited Jewish involvement growing up. Sam got involved with UMass Hillel during junior year out of curiosity about what it means to be a Jew– and fell in love with Hillel! They served as an Engagement Intern in 2016, establishing connections with students through one-on-one meetings and facilitating outreach and educational events to make LGBTQ students feel welcome in Jewish spaces. They were also a founding board member for the reform students group, Ruach. In addition to student engagement work, both Jewish and not, Sam has worked in renewable energy, climate change research, teaching, event programming, government administration and even Lego© camp. Sam loves baking cookies, eating brunch, going dancing, and binge-watching Netflix. Whether you’re an active member of social justice communities on campus already, you want to know more about what social justice means, you have ideas on how to make Hillel a more inclusive and activism-focused space, or you just want someone to rant to about your dog, Sam would love to get coffee with you!
