MEGA Shabbat, in loving memory of Myra H. Kraft, is the largest student hosted Shabbat dinner of the year and takes place every spring semester. Enjoy dinner with hundreds of students, faculty, and staff, then head to the Kraft Center for dessert and more Shabbat celebrations. This year, MEGA Shabbat will be on February 20, 2026!

MEGA Shabbat Frequently Asked QuestionsMEGA Shabbat is Columbia/Barnard Hillel’s biggest student-hosted Shabbat dinner open to the entire campus community! All students, faculty and staff of all backgrounds, are invited to celebrate Shabbat together.
MEGA Shabbat is 7 pm Friday, February 20. Dinner will take place in Levien Gymnasium (that’s right– the basketball court!) You’ll enter on 120th between Broadway and Amsterdam.
After dinner, you are invited to the Kraft Center for dessert, games, singing, and more options to help make your Shabbat special
If you included your guest’s name when you registered yourself, you’re all set! However, please make sure your guest has an ID with them to enter.
If you’re adding a guest now, email your guest’s name to shabbat@hillel.columbia.edu. Non-CUID guests MUST be registered in advance to enter, so please do this step ASAP.
Come as you are! Whatever you would normally wear on a Friday night– whether that’s dressed up for Shabbat, ready for a night out, or comfy after a long week– is welcome. Expect some organized, beautiful chaos as we welcome Shabbat with blessings and eat a delicious meal together!
Dessert will be available in the Kraft Center, following dinner in Levien Gymnasium.
In addition to dessert, there will be receptions for seniors and graduate students, as well as spaces for games, singing, learning and quiet reflection. You are welcome to customize your Shabbat experience so that it is meaningful to you!
