Columbia/Barnard Hillel students spent time in Curaçao this fall break discovering the island’s fascinating Jewish history and experiencing its vibrant culture. From exploring historic synagogues and museums to hearing about the island’s maritime past, students gained a deeper understanding of the Jewish community that helped shape Curaçao. The group spent Shabbat at the historic Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue and volunteered at the Beth Haim Berg Altena cemetery, helping care for an important piece of the island’s Jewish past. Students also enjoyed a salsa class and a sunset cruise.
