The Alexander Jewish Leadership Institute (AJLI) is a yearlong leadership fellowship through Columbia/Barnard Hillel for rising juniors and seniors who identify as Jewish. As part of the program, each AJLI cohort spends a week of winter break traveling together, exploring challenges and opportunities of Jewish life in a Jewish community abroad.

This year’s AJLI cohort recently returned from a winter break trip in Spain, visiting Barcelona, Girona, Toledo, and Madrid. Highlights included visits with Jewish schools in Barcelona and Madrid, meetings with religious leaders from multiple denominations, and walking through the historic Jewish quarter of Toledo. The group also spent time touring and experiencing local culture, including Gaudí-designed architecture and Park Güell in Barcelona, as well as a flamenco show in Madrid.
