The Kraft Center for Jewish Student Life was honored to host Natan Sharansky on the 40th anniversary of his release from Soviet prison. The program was introduced by Jack Lew, former U.S. Treasury Secretary and ambassador to Israel under the Biden Administration, and moderated by Alyza Lewin of the Combat Antisemitism Movement, with an opening by Student Board President Rebecca Massel. Co-sponsored by the Institute for Global Policy, the event drew students, faculty, and community members.

They discussed Sharansky’s experience living under communist rule and the impact of Marxist and socialist ideologies on individual freedom and antisemitism, as well as the ongoing fight for Jewish civil rights in Europe, the U.S., and New York.
