BIPOC Climate Justice Dialogue
The Columbia Climate School is proud to co-host the 4th “BIPOC Climate Justice Dialogue,” which will bring Black, Indigenous, and People of Color climate justice experts, U.S. government officials, and philanthropy representatives to discuss national climate justice strategies and the role of people, policy, pedagogy, and philanthropies in delivering them. BIPOC communities’ individuals have borne the brunt of toxic pollution, disinvestment, and disproportionate impacts from climate change for far too long. Currently, historic investments, pieces of legislation, and programs have been deployed with a commitment to justice and equity. How can we ensure the transformational potential of these funds and policies is met? How do we ensure direct access to marginalized and underserved communities? The following groups are co-hosting this event: — Columbia Climate School & EJCJC Network — Columbia Global — HBCU Green Fund — Donors of Color — Open Government Collaboration Aligning with the University’s 4th Purpose, this event helps advance environmental justice both regionally and nationally by bringing together stakeholders and creating spaces for justice-centric discussions. By sponsoring this event, Columbia University begins to shift away from its extractive model of interaction with frontline communities to a model of co-creation and support.
